From the beginning of time when Adam & Eve fell into sin, the relationship mankind had with God was broken. From this point in time all of mankind inherited the nature of sin and needed something to restore this relationship back into its proper place.
God created us because He desired an intimate relationship and fellowship with us in the first place. God had a plan all along because He knew we could not restore this relationship on our own. His plan came in the form of a human being, Jesus Christ. God came to this earth as a fleshly man so that He might experience everything we experience. He was tempted as we are tempted. The difference is He was able to conquer His self-will and lived a sinless life. He became the perfect sacrifice and was crucified on the cross for all mankind.
Why did Jesus do this? To restore the relationship that was broken in the beginning. Jesus took on all of our sin upon Himself. He took our past sins, our present sins and our future sin and has forgiven us so that we might have a right relationship with God. This is what we call the Grace of God. It is His undeserved and unmerited favor that we don’t deserve but because He loves us so much and desires and eternal relationship He was willing to go to a cross and defeat anything that would hinder our relationship with Him.
This is the Good News! The Bible says it this way..
2 Cor 5:21
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. NKJV
Col 2:13-14
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses , 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. NKJV
Heb 10:16-17
16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," 17 then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." NKJV
Romans 6:13
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. NKJV
John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. NKJV
If you have tried God before and failed or you have felt like God is angry with you then you have not experienced the true Grace of God. God is not happy with you one day and angry with you the next. A relationship with God is not about a list of rules that you are to perform in order to live up to His standards. Remember this, it’s not about YOU, it is about HIM and what He has already done on your behalf.
Your next step is to simply believe! Believe what? Believe that His work on the cross was enough for you. That His blood that was shed was for your forgiveness and that He has restored your relationship with our Heavenly Father. All He asks you to do is repent and believe. Repent means simply “to change one’s mind”. You need to change your mind about God, change your thinking to I am set free from all my past, present and future sins and it was only through Christ. If you are trying to be good enough stop trying. You will never be good enough! Only Christ was good enough!
When you realize the freedom you have and the grace you have received and the love that God has for you it will cause you to long to please Him with your life. It is the Grace of God, the Good News that causes you to want to give your life completely to Him.
If you are running from God, stop and run towards Him. God is Love, He is forgiving and He is gracious. He is greater than all your failures. Don’t wait until you “get it all together”. Come to Him in all your imperfections and He will restore you to wholeness. You will begin to live the Champion Life He has destined for you!
